Darsena Norte in Puerto Madero

On the northern side of Darsena Norte, there is the former Hotel de Inmigrantes (Immigrant Hotel), arrival point for almost all who arrived on European ships, as well as the Escuela de Náutica (Nautical School) and the Dirección General de Migraciones (General Migration Management). In the museum there are photographs, various personal items brought along by the recent arrivals and a room that recreates an arrival postcard of Buenos Aires's port, with immigrants' trunks, suitcases and luggage. There is also a database for consultations about immigrants from the year 1900 on. The restaurant, bar and events hall that make up the Opera Bay complex in Darsena Norte, somewhat reminiscent of Sydney, Australia's Opera House, are located across the rotating bridge and behind the Telecom building. The breakwater of the elegant Yacht Club Argentino closes off the entrance to the Darsena Norte on the south side. At the club, there is a restaurant and bar for members and guests, in addition to docked sailboats. Just a few steps away, the Club de Pescadores of Darsena Norte (Fisherman's Club) also has a breakwater in addition to an unpretentious restaurant open to the public along the Río de la Plata. The second building on the eastern side of Dock 4 is home to the still unfinished museum of the Colección Fortabat, a work by architect Tonconogy for the pictorial collection of Mrs. Amalia Lacroze de Fortabat, the richest woman in the country. The dock's waters contain the Yacht Club Puerto Madero marina, with a restaurant and bar that open at noon. The Corbeta (Corvette) Uruguay, a museum-vessel that was Argentina's first school ship and that rescued Otto Nordenskjóld's expedition from the ice in 1903, may be accessed from the other side of the dock, across the Boulevard M. Güemes Bridge. Here, furniture, instruments, documems and other testimonies of the ship's 52 years of duty are on display.

The docks across from Dique 4 (Dock 4), between 100 and 500 of Avenida Alicia Moreau de Justo, are home to one of the city's most important gastronomical areas, recognized for quality and location. Most of the restaurants have nice terraces with outdoor seating along the pedestrian strip of Darsena Norte. With a variety of food styles and settings, it is possible to enjoy excellent Argentina meats, pastas, seafood, sushi and more. Along the pedestrian strip, on one of the old cranes that now serve as decorative objects, there is a city run tourist office.

Dique 3 (Dock 3), (between Macacha Cüemes - sister of the Salta-native leader in the battles for Independence and leader herself- and Azucena Villaflor- founder of the Madres of the Plaza de Mayo and missing during the military dictatorship) is elegantly divided by the Puente de la Mujer (Woman's Bridge). A donation from the company that built the Hilton Hotel, it was designed by the famous Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava and entirely built in Spain. This rotating, pedestrian bridge was the architect's first design in Latin America.
